Gushing on Gish
So recently I have been listening to Gish again after no playing it for ages (maybe a year or more!!!!) and I had forgotten how cool it is, especially now where I am the weather is getting sunnier. It fits my current mood perfectly. Going to see if I can track down the vinyl of this in my local record stores this weekend

Yeah, Gish rules. It's the only Smashing Pumpkins album I honestly reallly like. Good luck finding it on vinyl, man.

Gish is the definite springtime Pumpkins album, just like Siamese Dream is perfect for hot summer days and nights and Mellon Collie for the far stretch of the shady to cold seasons. I love early to mid Pumpkins so damn much.

Gish is one of my dad's favorite albums, whenever anything related to 90s rock comes up he just goes "You into the Pumpkins yet? I always hear new stuff in your room but I haven't heard anything from Gish yet!"
There's no such thing as a sure thing. Of this, I'm sure.

Their best album to me tbh.
It doesn't have the hits of the later albums
But it has the perfect mix of hard rockers and soft atmospheric tracks.
It showed what SP was about in a concise LP.

Love Gish. It's the only Pumpkins album I actually have.
How can I begin anything new with all of yesterday in me?

That's exactly how I feel about those albums. I had my iTunes playing at random on one of the first sunny days this year, and a ton of songs from Gish came on... It's the Pumpkins album I've listened to least but I think it's become my favorite. The songs, the guitar sound, and the production are all the best.incessantmace wrote:Gish is the definite springtime Pumpkins album, just like Siamese Dream is perfect for hot summer days and nights and Mellon Collie for the far stretch of the shady to cold seasons. I took a journey to the pyramids, there was nothing there but sand, and the ghost of a child who had never been born. In a thousand years, no one planted trees there, so all that grew from the sand was stone.

Rhinoceros is the third best song I am familiar with (after "To Here Knows When" and "Spank Thru")
Re: Gushing on Gish
I recently learnt Rhinoceros on guitar, it's awesome!

Re: Gushing on Gish
I think I finally may have reached the point where I overplayed the classic Pumpkins albums of my late youth (Siamese-Pisces-Mellon Collie-MC b-sides) to the point that Gish reemerges as a true classic that hasn't been listened and analyzed to death. I also really like the traces of post-punk and true psychedelia that aren't really there on Siamese and the records after that. I have my doubts if one day I'll have that same feeling with Adore but you never know.
